Student reviews of Douglass Parker
Review from a student who took CC 303
Incredibly boring lectures- Parker doesn't mention anything relevent to the tests until the review the day before the test. Tons of boring readings about mythology and one paper. Really hard tests- MC, matching and short answer/essay. Take this class if you like to read a lot and like boring lectures. I wroked my butt off for a B.

Hands-down best class I've ever taken (or ever will take!) at UT. Total freedom, good readings (though he doesnn't particularly care if you do them), interesting projects. More creative writing than anything, but his projects aren't like anything else you've ever done. If you're looking for a class in applied creativity, this is it. Lectures are...random. Dr. Parker talks, sometimes it's relevant, sometimes it isn't, but it's always bizarre, and always interesting.

I'll agree with the other reviewer - the lectures are often times sinfully boring and the class is not very engaged. In fact, sometimes I couldn't tell whether he knew we were there or not, he just kind of rambled. But he's passionate about his subject which I admire in a professor. He's easy going, flexible, open to ideas, and really encourages his students to explore other ideas. There was a lot of freedom and I thoroughly enjoyed the class. I'd recommend him as a professor, despite the boring lectures.
