Professor profile for Lily Litvak
Student reviews of Lily Litvak
Review from a student who took Chicano Literature
I had Professor Lily Litvak in 1972! I couldn't tell you the course number, but her class was excellent! It was an ideal mix of lecture and discussion: neither a sleep-producing, hour-long professorial drone, nor a free-for-all among students who, truth be told, knew much less about the topic than she id. Dr. Litvak is not Chicana but Mexican, and, rather than this being a disadvantage, it provided an interesting "alternate" perspective on some things and gave rise to spirited debate with and within the group of students--who were, ourselves, far from monolithic in our opinions. The debate was spirited--even a bit acerbic at times, but Dr. Litvak never made any of us feel that we were forbidden to disagree with her or with each other: she managed the give-and-take well, so much so that almost half a century later I have vivid, positive memories of her class. If she has maintained these qualities over the decades, I highly recommend her.
