Liebowitz is always in a good mood and ready to answer any questions during lecture and after class. His lectures can sometimes be a little scattered because he knows so much about Judaism that it seems hard for him to pick out the important things students need to know, so you have to ask him, "will this be on the test," or ask him to repeat what you needed to know from the schpeal he just gave. You don't really have to read the books, just take good notes, go to class, and get to know him. Go to his office hrs if need be and your efforts will be rewarded. His TA grades the tests, they are mostly essay. He doesn't give you the essays beforehand, but he gives you a review sheet. Good class. I'm not a Jew and I got an A.

Dr Liebowitz is very interesting to listen to in lecture. The key is to take great notes, even about what may not initially seem pertinent because he always eventually comes around to his point. He is perpetually late and enjoys his religious holidays. He is highly educated in his field, and, though sometimes mildly sarcastic, he is terrific at answering questions. Do not however insult him with not keeping up with the reading - class will end abruptly and that subject may be tested over but never covered again in class.
