I took Ancient Political Philosophy from Prof. Koons my freshman year and loved it! Its one of my favorite classes. We played a "game" called Reacting to the Past and simulated post-Peloppenesian War Athenian assemblies. Each student was assigned to a historical faction with a specific role that they assumed and acted out. We researched, planned, gave speeches, strategized, backstabbing coups went on too. It was awesome! Fun, interesting, and a cool way to apply lectures. There is a lot of material to read, but its worth it. What you learn in that class applies to your whole life, no matter where you go and what you do. Please take this class. Koons is a good professor, interesting, relevant, he cares about the students, and things are always open to discussion. We had a great TA too named Fei-ting. If you're not into thinking and/or philosophy, don't take this, it won't be your cuppa tea no matter how good the class is. But, if you want to work at learning to think and reason better, take it for sure! you won't regret it.

Professor Koons is one of the best professors I have had. He is ridiculously intelligent and his lectures are really interesting. Ancient philosophy has never been my favorite area, but he combines politics and the social structure of Ancient Athens and Rome. The games we play make the class really involved and exciting. If you are thinking about taking this class, do it. This class is not an easy A, but if you do the reading and give any effort you can expect at very least a high b. Seriously though, take this class. Professor Koons would probably be disturbed by the extent that I fangirl about his class on a daily basis. Hope this was somewhat helpful!
