Had Kate for Rhetoric of Music Writing. Lectures could be rather boring, which was made even rougher because the class is 1 1/2 hrs. She diagrams on the board everything that the class talks about. WHile the topics brought up can be interesting, this lecture style is easy to get tired of. Workload was OK- we had to read something occasionally and comment on it online, and then (3) 4-6 page papers throughout the semester. She grades the papers pretty rough- she analyzes everything you say, so the class felt a lot like a theory class rather than a writing class. It's not too hard to make a B if you do the work, but don't expect to pull out an A.

I took Poesis with Kate. Her lectures were sometimes interesting. Very easy to get bored, but she's a great teacher who really does care about teaching. She does a great job at being available to you out of the classroom in case you need help. She's also very flexible with assignments and grading.
