Gavito Rules! You should definately take his class. Practically no homework- all we had to do was go to 2 concerts and write a simple "concert report" on them. Gavito has an excellent lecture style, and really makes the material interesting- I really grew to appreciate different types of music. Basically , to do good all you have to do is take notes and study a little for the tests. Attendance is taken, and you do have to go to a discussion class, but that's pretty easy to do- it was an easy A , and I really enjoyed the class as well.

Gavito is an awesome teacher! I took MUS 302L and it was one of my best classes. His lectures are interesting and he's a really hilarious guy. I highly recommend taking this class with this professor. The workload is VERY light w/ no homework. You have to attend two concerts and write a simple concert report for each but that's the most work you'll ever have to do. He presents his lectures on powerpoint and you copy down the notes and listen to a few pieces in class. Make sure you go to class and the lab b/c attendance is taken. I made high As on all the quizzes and all it took was reading over my notes the night before.

I LOVE GAVITO!! He is by far THE most interesting teacher I have EVER had. There is never a dull class period, especially when he brings his puppy to class. Gavito is utterly brilliant in his teaching style; he completely gives you a deep and discerning appreciation for music. He has around 6 SUPER-EASY quizzes a semester, and even drops the lowest. The class requires 2 concert attendances and writeups, which are just as fun and unstressful. I honestly do NOT think the textbook is necessary; the only necessity is to attend class (attendance counts) and obtain notes-his quizzes are verbatim! I concur that this is a difficult class to register for, but if you wait a week or so after classes begin, you'll almost surely get in if you speak to him! DEFINITELY take this class!!
