Review from a student who took HIS 345L
Forgie is great! One of the best profs at UT. His lectures are well-organized; he puts up an outline at the beginning of each class with the main points he covers in the lecture and a list of important people, events, etc. to know. He's a great lecturer, very interesting and amusing, and he really makes you think and learn a lot. Sometimes he uses funny analogies that can be really strange but help you understand the point he's trying to make. He works hard to make sure you understand the material, and after each lecture he has discussion where people can ask questions. As far as his personality goes, he's a really funny, nice guy -- very likable. Your grade is based on one final (50%) and two tests (25% each). The tests consist of one essay (you get two choices to pick between) that counts 80%, a matching section that can be a bit picky, and a short multiple-choice section. The books he picks are interesting, and if you do the reading and come to class (there are also optional SI sessions each week, run by the TA, that you can go to), you should at least make a B. It isn't an "easy A," but it is by no means impossible to make an A -- and no matter what grade you make, you're guaranteed to really enjoy the class and learn a lot. Highly recommended!

Forgie is a lot of fun. He can be pretty sarcastic, but it's really amusing. The class isn't easy, but it definitely is interesting. There's no homework-homework in this class - just reading. Your grade is based solely on 2 tests and the final.

Very engaging lecturer and a nice guy. He has discussions at the end of each class and he selects very interesting books. One of the best professors I've had in my time here.
