I took a photoclass in high school, didn't learn much in this class. I suggest going digital since it's so much easier to turn in a CD, plus you get to see your pictures ahead of time, some people screw up with film and find out when it's too late to shoot again. Assignments were easy, some may find learning how to use the camera difficult. It's an expensive class. He has speakers, some are interesting, some are boring, there are quizes on these speakers so come.

This class is expensive. You have to buy a lot of film and pay for processing. The class was great and I learned a lot, but grading depends on your TA. There are projects due almost every week and they take a lot of time. You have to take two rolls of film per project (72 exposures) and it takes time and effort. Lectures are intersting and proff is funny. Overall a great class if you can devote the time and money.

Dennis Darling is a great guy. He structures his class pretty well for a beginning photography class. You start with the basics, then work up. If you are already an experience photographer coming into the class, it starts out insanely easy--almost to the point where you are bored...but don't worry it picks up. He brings in a lot of speakers ranging from local photographers to people from all over the nation. If you are planning on moving on in photography, this class will make you realize how CONNECTED Dennis and the Photojournalism department are. Grading depends on the TA, but from what I know most grade pretty fairly. There are extra credit opportunities as well. They make it really hard to not get at least a B in this class, and most people get A's. I would definitely reccommend this class, but be aware of the expenses! You will spend about $300-$400 on average on supplies since you will shoot 2 rolls of slide film for each project which then has to be processed at an outside lab. No one tells you about these expenses before you register! So consider yourself warned. Overall, an excellent class!
