You may hear stories about how bad this class is, but in reality, I think the Harvard cases weren't terrible: they were just time-consuming. Dr. Cox forms five-person teams (number may vary slightly) by looking at everyone's resumes at the beginning of the semester and making balanced groups by major. Each of the three projects involved thoroughly reading the case (always about a company), selecting a way to create a "product mix" spreadsheet, making more spreadsheets to project out five years of results (both for what would happen to the company if they continued what their current tactics are AND if they implemented your recommendations), and compiling that information into (usually three) recommendations that are essentially long, bulleted lists of how to implement them. In total, there are three cases that you have to do all that I just described in the previous paragraph, but you only have to present one to the class; you critique a presenting group for another project, and you get out of doing anything above the spreadsheets and write-up for another case. Do not buy the book: not even the two open-note exams will be easier with it. Most of your grade will come from the three Harvard case projects, and he curves the exam grades. So don't worry that much about getting Bs on the tests.
