Burger is amazingly charismatic. He knows the material well and his lectures are never boring. I don't think I ever fell asleep in that class. However, he does go on all kinds of tangents, which are interesting if you like computer architecture and understand it. Otherwise, you may get a bit lost and confused. The homeworks were time consuming, but there were only 5-6. Tests were also hard but curved generously.

Burger is VERY knowledgeable about what he teaches, and has an amazing lecture style. He does a great job of relating the material to the real world. There were about 5 or 6 homework assignments that were pretty time consuming, but you had a while to do them. There was also a project at the end of the semester which will take you a long time to complete. There's a lot of important material in this course, and Burger does an excellent job of teaching it to you. If you go to class, do all the homework assignments, and just generally put in a good effort, you can make an A. I HIGHLY recommend Burger for any class. You will walk away knowing that you learned a lot.

STRONGLY DISAGREE with taking Burger. I did all the homeworks, busted my ass for his class, went to his office hours, went to class, and that jerk gave me a 'D'. Don't take this prof, unless you want to get screwed and make you think that you have the slightest chance of getting an 'A'!!! NEVER TAKE THIS PROF...EVER!!!

I took CS310 with Burger and Keckler and it is probably one of my favorite CS classes. The homework can be time consuming, and he makes the tests tough, but you definately learn the material and he is a very good lecturer. Because the tests are so hard, he gives a pretty good curve... I would strongly recommend taking Burger whenever you can.
